Greyson Thomas DeVito and Emma Nanette Wade — the inspiration, purpose, and love Grey Rising was founded on. Grief is rooted in love, and though no two losses or traumas compare, we are here to support you in the way you need.

About the practice

Named for Greyson… but built for you.

Grey Rising is a Mental Health Counseling and Grief Center — a warm, non-judgmental space for people working through mental health struggles, substance use, and grief alike. The practice carries the name of Greyson Thomas DeVito, my son, and his memory is the ground it stands on. My mission is to walk beside clients as they navigate their mental health and grief journeys, offering guidance and resources that help them heal and grow.

Hi, I'm Krissy DeVito, a Licensed Professional Counselor with a unique perspective shaped by my own experience with grief. I earned my Master's in Addiction Counseling from the University of the Cumberlands in 2021, and I bring evidence-based techniques together with genuinely empathetic listening. My focus is always on understanding your unique story and guiding you toward personal growth and positive, lasting change.

The phoenix

Rising is not forgetting. It is learning to carry what happened and still move toward warmth.

The cardinal

A reminder that the people we lose stay close — and that grief and love live in the same room.

Specialties

Whatever brought you here, it is allowed to be spoken out loud.

Adults and older teens are welcome. If your struggle is not listed, reach out anyway — we will figure out together whether this is the right fit.

Grief & Loss

Child loss, sudden loss, anticipatory grief, and the long middle no one prepares you for.

Trauma

Single-incident and long-standing trauma, addressed at a pace your nervous system can hold.

Anxiety & Panic

Racing thoughts, dread, avoidance, and the exhaustion of managing everything alone.

Depression

Low mood, numbness, and the loss of interest in the things that used to matter.

Life Transitions

Identity shifts, burnout, caregiving, and rebuilding after everything changed.

Relationships & Boundaries

Family strain, people-pleasing, and learning to say what you actually need.

Approach

Collaboration first. Method second.

My approach is rooted in a client-centered philosophy — empathy, respect, and collaboration. I believe each person carries their own strength and wisdom, and my role is to create a safe, non-judgmental space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings openly. Through active listening and genuine validation, I help you gain insight into your challenges and uncover your own solutions.

Alongside that foundation, I integrate evidence-based techniques tailored to your unique needs — cognitive-behavioral strategies for specific issues, mindfulness practices to deepen self-awareness, and other tools chosen to fit the moment. My goal is always the same: to equip you with practical resources that build resilience and support a more fulfilling, balanced life.

  1. 01

    Person-Centered

You are the expert on your own life. I bring warmth, honesty, and unconditional regard — not a diagnosis waiting to be confirmed. The direction of our work is yours to set.

  2. 02

    Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

When thoughts have hardened into rules, CBT gives us practical tools to notice them, test them, and choose differently — with skills you keep long after our sessions end.

  3. 03

    Motivational Interviewing

Change is rarely all-or-nothing. We explore ambivalence without pressure, so your reasons for moving forward come from you rather than from me.

  4. 04

    Integrative & Adaptive

Mindfulness, solution-focused work, grief-specific frameworks, and other modalities enter the room when the moment calls for them — chosen with you, never applied to you.

What to expect

A personalized experience, built together.

No single approach fits every client, so nothing here is one-size-fits-all. Working from a person-centered foundation means the direction of our work is a collaboration — you know yourself better than any technique does, and my role is to bring the tools, not the answers. Together we find what actually helps, and that keeps the power to heal right where it belongs: with you.

01

Reach out

Send a short message about what is going on. You do not need the right words — a few honest sentences are enough to begin.

02

The first session

We spend it getting to know each other: your history, what you are carrying, and what you hope changes. No worksheets on day one.

03

Ongoing work

We set the rhythm together — weekly or biweekly — and revisit what is working. Your goals stay yours, and they are allowed to change.

Between Sessions

Support does not end when the session does.

If grief, anxiety, or a hard day feels bigger than what can wait for our next appointment, these resources are available to you at any hour.
